Question about cracked windshields

Morning friends. This question is actually for my neighbor who's windshield is cracked and he was asking me at what point do you, or should you rather get a whole new windshield. Because there are glass repair kits, but his crack is nearly 8" long. Should this be a replaced or will this be fixed? Also he was asking and I had no clue on the answer is regarding strength. When a cracked windshield is fixed, is it AS strong as a new windshield, or will that be easier to break in the future?

It won't be as strong when fixed. As long as the line does not interfere with vision of the road I would not bother fixing it

I believe anything over 3" you need a new windshield
