Buying a camper trailer requires caution, as plenty of brands claim their products can tackle any conditions. In reality, that isn’t always true.
Instead, too many trailer companies overpromise and underdeliver. What you get is a trailer that does some or even most of what’s claimed but not everything you hoped it would be capable of handling.
And then there’s companies like OBi…
I’ve gotten to know the team behind OBi Camper over the last few months, and a better group of people you will not find. These folks are dedicated to crafting the highest-quality trailers on the market. They use their expertise in building and design and their love of overlanding and off-roading to accomplish that goal.
When you think of a proper off-road trailer, it needs to be tough and comfortable. That’s not an easy blend to achieve. Yet, this is exactly what the OBi Dweller 15 delivers.
If you’re dreaming of off-road overlanding adventures, read on to learn precisely what a well-made, comfortable off-road trailer should be.

OBi Dweller 15 Basic Specs
So, the goal of having an off-road trailer is, well, to get off-road! That being the case, you need something with the basic specs to get off the pavement and deep into the wilderness. The OBi Dweller 15 can do just that.
The great thing about this trailer is that it’s not only capable of getting you off-road, but you can take your family along with you. Inside and out, you’ll find comfort and amenities without requiring a full-on tow rig to handle it. The trailer dimensions are:Â
- Box length: 15′ 9″ (with a total length of 20′)
- Width: 6′ 9″
- Height: (Collapsed) 7′ 6″
- Height: (Expanded) 8′ 8″
- Ground Clearance: 2′
Even for the tallest of buyers, the Dweller 15 provides the headroom needed to walk inside comfortably, both when collapsed or expanded. Its width, height, and length also provide a comfortable area to sleep or hang out when the weather outside is a bit too cold or wet.Â
To complement the spacious interior, you also get a capable power system that keeps all devices powered, even during remote trips. This is possible thanks to a 2000-watt Renogy inverter, three 100-watt solar panels, and three 100AH batteries.
When it comes to water storage, the Dweller 15 also has you covered. With a 21-gallon fresh water tank, another 21-gallon gray water tank, and a 31-gallon city water unit, you have all the water you need to spend multiple nights in areas with no access to such amenities.
As you can see in the video above by ROA Off-Road, these features come in a relatively light package of 5,070 pounds dry and 500 pounds at the ball. With a GVWR of 6405 GVWR, a modern-day SUV can handle towing this rig. The new-for-2022 friction sway system makes it a dream to tow regardless of the vehicle you use.
OBi Dweller 15 Amenities
When it comes to amenities, the Obi Dweller 15 has you covered. Some of the most impressive ones are the pop-top roof, full bathroom, galley, and the heating and air conditioning.
The pop-up roof is great as it keeps the trailer compact when driving down the road but provides more interior space when parked at camp. Another benefit that few people think about is that the canvas on the pop top makes you feel closer to nature when sleeping inside. You can still hear all the sounds of babbling brooks and feel the nighttime breeze, yet reap the benefits of heat and air conditioning at the same time.
A significant feature of the OBi Dweller 15 is the full bathroom. Not many off-road trailers offer restroom facilities, let alone a spacious, fully-featured one like you find in this trailer.
The aforementioned pop-top roof gives you plenty of space to stand up straight in the shower, and with room to twist, turn, and bend down, you can shower without banging your elbows on the walls! Add to the mix a cassette toilet, and you have the makings of the perfect off-road trailer bathroom.
Of course, I’m a fan of the air conditioning and heating system in this trailer. Even when I’m way off the beaten path, I still want to be comfortable with a warm cabin for sleeping at night and a cool cabin for lounging in the heat of the day. Again, the Dweller 15 delivers on these points with an under-bunk A/C system that puts the cool air right where you need it and a Truma Combi furnace and water heater that keeps you toasty warm and provides hot water for showering.
On top of that, this efficient heating and cooling system means you can be comfortable regardless of the season. Camping in the dead of summer and the dead of winter is a distinct possibility with a trailer that has as robust an HVAC system as this.
Another favorite amenity of the OBi Dweller 15 is the pull-out galley. For starters, I appreciate that the galley is outside, because it frees up space inside the trailer for sleeping and hanging out (although, as you can see in the video earlier in this article, an indoor kitchen can be a great amenity as well).Â
Secondly, the galley has everything you could hope for in an off-road trailer. There’s a sink and two-burner stove with a pull-out full-size divided refrigerator and freezer right next to it. This setup makes cooking great meals a breeze.Â
Of course, the above are not the only great amenities this trailer has to offer. Instead, OBi has stuffed the Dweller 15 to the gills with fantastic amenities that make off-grid camping more convenient and comfortable.
For example, you’ll find high-end laminate cabinets and flooring inside the trailer. These laminate surfaces look great and provide rugged durability to stand up to the rigors of off-grid camping.
You’ll also find a dining table for sharing meals with family and friends, a TV with a DVD player and a stereo for after-dinner entertainment, and bug out screens to keep your insect friends out. There’s also day or night window shades.
Other features include:
- A skylight that adds even more natural light to the interior of the OBi Dweller 15.
- A plush folding queen-sized mattress where you can get a great night’s sleep.
- An extenda bed for additional sleeping space (and with additional bunks, you can sleep up to five people).
- A 12-foot electric awning that gives you protected outdoor living space.
- An outdoor shower unit for getting dirt and grime off before you head inside.
Who says you have to rough it when you’re off-grid?!Â
OBi Dweller 15 Off-Road Capabilities
Since the Dweller 15 is an Australian-inspired trailer, it’s safe to say that its off-road abilities are unmatched. Evidence of that is in the long list of off-road features and capabilities.
It offers an articulating coupler and an independent coil suspension with dual heavy-duty shocks and springs. The trailer comes with 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and electric drum brakes as well.
As if that’s not enough, the trailer rides on a hot-dipped galvanized chassis that offers supreme strength for those rugged off-road trails you want to explore. Â
Off-roading might be the strong point of this trailer; however, this doesn’t mean it isn’t good on road. All the heavy-duty equipment underneath means it will last for decades while also providing amazing towing performance. This isn’t just a trailer for the dirt but one that also offers luxury amenities for trips on paved roads, too.Â
Final Thoughts
Adventures are meant to be fun and relaxing; therefore, a trailer you can trust is crucial. The OBi Dweller 15 will serve you well for many years to come, regardless of the type of adventures you plan to undertake. With this trailer’s features, amenities, and off-road capabilities, you get so much more than an off-road trailer. Instead, you get something that gives you the freedom to explore the beauty of the world around us.Â
