When you think of the features you want in an off-road-capable trailer, you might immediately think of the suspension, the tires, and the ground clearance, just to name a few. And while these features are certainly important for off-road explorations with a trailer, I would argue that space is another important feature.
Here’s what I mean…
Having a trailer with a small footprint while on the trail enables easier towing, particularly when the trail is narrow, overhead clearance is low, and there’s tight turns. Yet, having a trailer that you can stand up straight in at camp is also a nice feature. The question is, how do you have your cake and eat it too?
You buy a pop top camper!
Today’s guide features one of the best pop top campers on the market – the OBi Dweller 15. I’ll use it as a perfect example of what an easy-to-use pop top camper offers you and your family for your off-road adventures.

OBi Dweller Specs and Features
With cutting-edge features that make camping simple and more pleasurable, the Dweller 15 is the ideal base camp for all types of camping and overlanding adventures. The interior’s ultramodern style makes luxury seem like an understatement, while its rugged build is ready for tackling even the most difficult trails.
This trailer is designed for off-the-beaten-path overland excursions, the kind of journeys that take you far into the deserts and woodlands on winding roads that are only supported by a select few trailers.
The Dweller 15 has a wide range of features that make it an ideal companion for your adventures. Inside, you’ll find high-end laminated flooring and cabinetry that provide durability for years and years of service. There’s a full bathroom, complete with a cassette toilet, a vanity with a sink, and a stand-up shower. You even get under-bunk air conditioning and a Truma Combi water heater and furnace to keep you comfortable no matter what the weather outside is like.
Additionally, the Dweller 15 has a pull-out kitchen with a sink and a two-burner stove that allows you to whip up awesome meals under the protection of the electric awning. There’s also a slide-out fridge/freezer combination to keep your food nice and cold.
Moreover, a 2,000-watt inverter, three 100AH batteries, and three 100-watt solar panels enable you to run all of your electrical appliances like heat, the TV, the water pump, and other conveniences that come standard with this trailer.
This pop top camper also comes with towing and suspension perks like an articulating towing coupler, an independent coil suspension with dual heavy-duty shocks and springs, plus 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and electric drum brakes.
Hence this pop top camper enables you to have a more dispersed off-grid experience with your family by moving away from conventional paved campgrounds and incorporating the same amenities you’d have at home.
The Pop Top Roof is Easy to Set Up
As noted earlier, having a pop top trailer makes it easier to tow yet offers you much more interior space when you get to camp and raise the roof.
As a tall guy – I’m well over 6 feet – it’s nice to have a camper that allows me to actually stand up straight (especially when I’m in the shower!).
But not all pop top campers are easy to set up. That’s why the OBi Dweller 15 is such a great example of what pop top trailers should be…
Check out the video above from ROA Off-Road’s OBi Dweller YouTube channel. It explains how to operate the pop top roof easily and quickly.
Basically, there are locks on each corner of the roof of the Dweller 15 that keep the roof in place while traveling. To set up the roof of this pop-top camper, pull up the latches to disengage the locks, drop the spare tires in the back, and deploy the rear slide (more on that in a minute). Then, head inside to raise the roof!
This is an overly simplistic rundown of the process to pop the top on the Dweller 15, but you get the point – it’s an easy-to-use trailer that only takes minutes to set up!
The Rear Slide-Out Gives You Even More Interior Space
Slide-outs are one of the best developments for camper trailers. These clever modifications give your rig loads of extra space without making the camper longer or wider while you’re on the road. This particular feature is also included in Dweller 15, making it an attractive option for many.
In this case, you’ll find that setting up the rear slide-out is as simple as it is to raise the roof. Unlock a few latches and levers, lift the roof and fold out the sides and bottom. Then head inside, set up the bed, and you’re ready to rock!
Again, this is a simplistic overview of the process, but it’s a simple process to begin with, so a long-winded set of instructions isn’t needed!
With this slide-out setup, you have room for a large bed for two adults, along with the front bed and the bunks. In other words, the Dweller 15 is a great trailer for a family or a group of friends to enjoy some time in the wilderness. And since it’s a pop top camper with a slide-out, you’ll get to those far-flung locations much easier!
