It is safe to say that the current generation of the Tundra has been around for a while. Thankfully, a replacement is near, and we now have some sneak peeks of what it will look like both in and out. Â
Let’s go over everything we currently know about the new Tundra.Â
2022 Toyota Tundra Interior
The first image available is that of the interior in which we can barely see the dashboard, screen, and steering wheel – it is also obvious that the truck is driving on a dirt road, likely somewhere in Utah or elsewhere in the American southwest.
This image provides plenty of information to believe that this may be the TRD Pro version which will be aimed directly towards the Ford Raptor. Backing up the speculation is the red stripe on the steering wheel which is something many performance cars have – the Raptor included.Â
The top section of the infotainment screen is also visible and the graphics and windows do not look like the current Toyota infotainment system. In fact, they look like the latest system that was unveiled in the Lexus NX.Â
The desert road also suggests the kind of driving this truck will be aimed at doing – covering ground fast over rugged terrain.Â
2022 Toyota Tundra Exterior
From the outside photo of the 2022 Toyota Tundra, we can barely see a TRD logo, a dark red interior, TRD looking wheels, and what appear to be steel side steps.Â
It is also clear that the front overhang is massive which will hinder approach angles. Even worse is that huge grill which makes developing aftermarket off-road bumpers to improve the approach angle a real pain. Ground clearance doesn’t appear to be that great and this is a truck with a long wheelbase; therefore, break-over angles don’t seem that impressive either. This is a full-sized truck though, so such drawbacks can be expected.
Could the 2022 Toyota Tundra be an actual Raptor competitor though? Well, to do so it will need a lot of power and a sophisticated suspension system. Some information regarding power has been leaked suggesting that a twin-turbo V6 combined with a hybrid system may be the powertrain for this truck. If that is the case horsepower numbers will be somewhere along the 480hp and 640 lb-ft mark. This may be true as the new Landcruiser will also have a twin-turbo V6; however, power numbers are currently unofficial.Â
This is all the information available from Toyota but at least we’ve finally got a sneak peek of what the new Tundra will look like.Â
Rumors suggest that the drivetrain will be more sophisticated and powerful than that of the current Raptor; therefore, an exciting battle may arise between the two brands. Â
More official images are expected this fall and we hope that the 2022 Toyota Tundra will be on sale by December!Â
