TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth Trailer Review

I’ve seen a lot of teardrop trailers and small camping trailers over the years. Many of them have been perfectly fine. A few have been pretty bad. But there have also been some trailers that are next-level good.

The 2022 TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer certainly fits into the “next-level good” category.

It’s difficult to differentiate products in the small camping trailer niche. After all, there’s only so much leeway you have in a small trailer footprint. Yet, the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer sets itself apart from the competition in many different ways. In fact, this trailer has features that I’ve never seen on a small camping trailer before.

You can get a detailed tour of the TigerMoth in my video above. In my TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth review below, I’ll give you some insights into its basic specs and features to demonstrate why I believe it’s one of the best small camping trailers on the market.

Let’s get to it!

Table of Contents:

TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth Trailer Basic Specs

At just 12’10” long, 6’7″ wide, and 1,310 pounds dry (for the standard configuration), the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer is the ideal size for camping adventures near and far. The 127-pound tongue weight (again, based on the standard configuration) makes this trailer towable with all manner of vehicles, including small 4-cylinder passenger cars!

The cabin is over 4.5′ wide and offers a maximum of 4’7″ of interior height. The 80″x54″ bed is roomy enough for two people, though you can accommodate kids or other guests in an optional rooftop tent if need be.

You can bring plenty of gear with you for extended trips – the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer has a 990-pound cargo capacity. Add in a 5-gallon fresh water NATO can, 235/75R15 tires, and 15 inches of ground clearance to the mix as well!

Of course, the list of standard features is much longer…

For example, the trailer comes with roof tracks and a cargo deck that can accommodate up to 200 pounds. There’s a front cargo step for accessing the roof that’s also perfectly sized for your cooler. You get LED exterior lighting, a 12V accessory outlet, and a pre-wired solar input, too.

I particularly like the ingenious slide-out kitchen. The kitchen is made of baltic birch plywood and features a two-burner stove that slides out from the rear of the trailer. Having the kitchen extend from the rear maintains the trailer’s side-to-side profile, which makes it easier to fit into tight camp spots.

Inside, you’ll find birch plywood cabinetry, LED lighting, and a 12V roof exhaust fan. There’s also a 12V accessory outlet, a 12V USB outlet, and a 12V digital voltmeter.

The TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer also offers the peace of mind of durable, high-quality construction.

For example, the trailer comes standard with a powder-coated steel chassis and gravel guard, a laser-cut powder-coated aluminum skeleton, and Kynar-painted aluminum composite panels. The acrylic insulated windows (four of them!) let lots of natural light into the space while providing the functionality of having screens and shades. These materials aren’t just lightweight, but they’ll also stand up to the rigors of camping and off-road travel.

Speaking of off-road travel, this trailer isn’t just a pavement princess…

It has a torsion axle suspension system with electric brakes, 15-inch steel wheels, and all-terrain tires. You even get a full-size spare!

TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth Trailer Unique Features

As if the basic specs aren’t enough to whet your appetite, the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer has many unique features that make it one of the best small camping trailers on the market today.

A prime example of this is the large side hatch. As you can see above, the side hatch provides easy access to the trailer’s interior, which comes in handy when packing up for a trip or unloading once you get home.

Of course, the side hatch is nice to have when you’re at camp, too! If the weather is nice and the bugs aren’t out, pop the side hatch open and enjoy the scenery and a nice breeze through the trailer. Having the side hatch open also makes the trailer seem larger by making indoor-outdoor living so much easier.

The aforementioned bed is another unique feature in the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer. The bed converts into a couch and offers 12 cubic feet of storage underneath. There’s also a collapsible 21″ x 18″ cafe table with an aluminum pedestal that gives you the ability to eat dinner or play games inside the trailer.

One of the complaints people have of traditional teardrop trailers and other small camping trailers is that the cabin feels cramped. That sentiment doesn’t apply to the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer. With four windows, two large doors, and a convertible bed, you can enjoy lots of light, fresh air, and amazing views, all from a comfortable and spacious cabin.

But Wait, There’s More!

The TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth trailer is certainly well-appointed from the get-go, but if you want, you can add a few options to make it more functional for your specific needs.

For example, you can add a tongue toolbox for added storage space if the interior and rooftop storage on the standard trailer isn’t quite enough. Likewise, you can add a Thule ProBar rack and a Thule Tepui 3-person tent if you’re bringing the family along on your trip.

For a little more sheltered space, you can add the Thule Tepui six-foot awning with a mosquito room plus mesh screen doors for the side and rear trailer entrances. Heck, you can even add a five-pound propane tank and a 5,000 BTU window air conditioner to make things more comfortable during summer trips.

In other words, TAXA Outdoors has thought of everything! A robust list of standard features and smart optional upgrades make the TigerMoth trailer a flexible and comfortable space for short or long camping trips. If you’re in the market for an adventure trailer, the TAXA Outdoors TigerMoth should be at the top of your list!
