Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry Review

I’ve reviewed a few Peak Refuel meals before, like the Biscuits and Sausage Gravy and the Breakfast Skillet, and in both cases, they were home runs.

But as good as they were, the Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry was even better. Holy smokes – this is one hell of a meal, and the fact that it’s freeze-dried and ready to eat in a bag makes it all the more impressive that it’s this tasty.

So, the cat’s out of the bag – this review will be a very positive one! My video review above dives into the details of why this meal is so tasty and why I enjoy Peak Refuel so much in general. I’ve outlined some of the high points of my review below so you can get a better picture of why these meals might be a slam dunk for your next overlanding adventure!

Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry Review: Preparation & Cooking

Obviously, as a pre-packaged meal, this coconut curry chicken doesn’t require much preparation – that’s the whole point! In fact, it’s just four easy steps…

First, open the pouch and remove the oxygen absorber (shown below). Sometimes, this little guy works its way to the bottom of the back, so you might have to dig around for it.

Second, add 1 1/3 cups boiling water to the pouch, and third, stir the water inside the pouch. Then close the pouch and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Lastly, open the pouch after 10 minutes have elapsed, stir it again, and enjoy! It just doesn’t get any simpler than that!

Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry Review: How Does It Taste?

One look at the ingredients on the back of the Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry, and you quickly begin to realize why this thing is packed with so much flavor…

For starters, there’s 100 percent real chicken that gives the meal a great basis of flavor. Add to that a host of spices that give it a well-rounded, robust taste:

  • Coconut
  • Carrots
  • Onion
  • Spinach
  • Garlic
  • Lemongrass
  • Coriander
  • Lime juice
  • Rice

The list goes on and on…

Trust me – the flavor of this thing is next level. And I’m not just saying that because I’m ex-military and had to suffer with MREs during my stint in the Army! I would stack the flavor of this Chicken Coconut Curry up against anything I could make from scratch at home (and many options I might have delivered to my house from a restaurant, for that matter.

In addition to tasting great, this meal isn’t overloaded with sodium – which many freeze-dried meals are. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the need for some sodium in your diet, but other meals I’ve had from other companies in the past were like a sodium bomb. This one, though, has the perfect amount of salt – no need to add extra; just open the pouch and chow down!

Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry Review: Benefits

The obvious benefit of using meals like this when I’m overlanding is the time savings. Despite being on “vacation,” there is always something to do or somewhere to be, so time always seems to be of the essence. Having a simple meal to cook that takes just a few minutes is a nice way to have great food without a ton of prep time.

The other obvious benefit of Peak Refuel meals is that they don’t take up much space. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – space is your biggest commodity when you’re overlanding, so having pre-packaged meals like this coconut curry chicken helps me ensure I have the space I need for all my gear.

As I discussed earlier, this meal is really, really tasty, too. It’s packed with so much flavor that you’d never guess it was a pre-packaged dinner. But, I’ve been blown away by the flavor of all the Peak Refuel meals I’ve tried so far, so it’s not surprising that the coconut curry chicken meal would be so darn tasty, too.

And the Peak Refuel Chicken Coconut Curry is also packed with nutrients and vitamins – important elements for when you’re out in the wild expending a lot of energy. You get 44 grams of protein if you eat the entire package, plus 30 percent of the daily value of iron, 20 percent of the daily value of potassium, and 8 percent of the daily value of calcium. Not bad!

Of course, these meals are designed to last a long time, too. You get a five-year shelf life if you store them in a cool, dry place. Just pick up a variety of them, put them in your pantry, and you can make quick work of meal planning for your new few years’ worth of adventures!

At the end of the day, overlanding is all about the journey and the experience. Even if you love to cook like I do, spending your mornings and evenings preparing and cooking meals isn’t exactly something you might want to do. After all, you’re either cooking, or you’re adventuring. I choose to adventure!

And meals like the Peak Refuel Coconut Curry allow me to do just that. It’s a quick and simple process to prepare, and you get a fantastic meal (thus the empty bowl above) without having to drag your kitchen pantry with you. What’s not to like?!
