How a Trailer Can Help You Overcome Common Camping Challenges

I know some of you will roll your eyes at the headline above. After all, doesn’t adding a trailer to the mix just complicate matters? Talk about camping challenges! You have to find a place to store the trailer, you have to tow it everywhere you go, and trailers are expensive and difficult to maintain, right?

Well, not so fast…

Have you ever seen a Space Trailer? These compact trailers aren’t just small and lightweight, but they offer loads of functionalities that can help solve some critical camping challenges. And with affordable prices, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get one!

Having said that, let’s explore a few common challenges you might encounter on your trips and how Space Trailers can help you resolve those problems.

A Quick Look at Space Trailers

Before we dive into the list of camping challenges, I want to give you a quick tour of Space Trailers…

As I discuss in my Space Trailers review, they’re pretty simple, really. There’s a large bed for hauling gear, a variety of available tongues so you can haul longer items (like canoes) on top of the trailer, and they can also accommodate accessories like bike racks, kayak racks, rooftop tents, and awnings.

These trailers are lightweight, yet rugged, too. On the one hand, you can easily tow one of these trailers with a small car, like a Subaru. On the other hand, you can get a Space Trailer with a heavy-duty axle, off-road wheels, and upgraded tires to help keep it on the straight and narrow when you head off-trail.

But my favorite feature of Space Trailers is the fact that you can store them vertically…

Unlike most trailers, Space Trailers have a tongue that folds down. As such, the trailer has a much smaller footprint whether you store it on its wheels or on its tailgate. If you’re like me, though, and your garage is already packed, having a trailer that can stand on end is a huge benefit. I suppose that’s why they’re called Space Trailers!

Camping Challenges: Limited Storage Space

Everyone knows that one of the primary “problems” of camping is that storage space is limited. This is true whether you’re backpacking, car camping, or if you have a trailer.

However, of those three options, camping with a trailer certainly offers the most room for your gear. With a Space Trailer in tow, you have an entire 4×7 foot box that you can fill with whatever gear you need. And since there’s a tailgate and a canopy lid that easily opens (or removes altogether, you can quickly and easily access whatever gear you have inside. Nice!

Now, just because you have ample space for gear doesn’t mean you have to fill your trailer to the brim. Doing so presents a whole other set of camping challenges. Instead, go through your gear, identify items that are must-haves, and find a place for them to live in the trailer.

Then, go through the rest of your gear and identify if it’s a necessity that you only sometimes need or something that you haven’t used in a long time. Add the sometimes-needed gear to the trailer and leave the seldom-used gear behind.

Furthermore, pack smart. Invest in tubs that allow you to group like items together so you can easily find what you need. Label each tub, too, to make the process of searching through your stuff all the easier.

Camping Challenges: Inclement Weather

I’ve been on my fair share of camping trips in rain, wind, bitter cold, and snow. And I wouldn’t change it for anything! Being outdoors means you’re going to experience some less-than-ideal weather, but with a trailer, you’re more capable of meeting that challenge.

For example, as noted above, Space Trailers offer loads of storage space, so when bad weather hits, you can throw everything in the trailer bed and rest easy, knowing it’s protected from the elements.

What’s more, you can add all sorts of accessories to a Space Trailer to help you get yourself out of the elements, too. Add a rooftop tent, for example, to get out of the rain and snow. In colder weather, you can also add an insulation kit to your tent to keep the temperature inside more comfortable.

Since Space Trailers can accommodate an awning, you can get some protection from the sun or rain without having to take shelter in your tent. In fact, Space Trailers offers a 6.5-foot Thule awning that fits the trailer perfectly. Just deploy the awning, sit back, and stay dry while you watch the rain come down!

Camping Challenges: Comfortable Sleeping Arrangements

A rooftop tent isn’t just a great place to escape bad weather. Instead, it’s an ideal option for getting comfortable sleep while you’re camping.

I do a lot of tent camping, and I have to say that whenever I pull up to a campsite, I dread the time I have to spend to find a spot without rocks or tree roots that will poke my feet as I walk around inside my tent (I sleep on a cot, so I don’t have to worry about roots in my back!).

But when I have my trailer and rooftop tent, the only setup I have to worry about is parking the trailer and deploying the tent. Plus, rooftop tents come with all sorts of amenities, like gear lofts and pockets for organization, shoe bags where you can put your shoes before heading inside, and anti-condensation mats that help minimize humidity inside the tent for a more comfortable night’s rest.

As I mentioned earlier, Space Trailers are more than robust enough to accommodate a rooftop tent. Just add Space Bars to the trailer, upgrade to heavy-duty gas struts, add your tent, and you’re ready to hit the sack! Of course, all this is atop a lightweight, easy-to-tow, multifunctional trailer, which makes it all the better!

Camping Challenges: Limited Food and Water Storage

I’ll be the first to admit that I have an appetite on me. That’s especially true when I’m camping. I love to cook, too, so those factors usually mean that I’m short on space when it comes to food and water storage.

But, again, having something like Space Trailers along for the ride allows you to keep dried goods and non-perishable food neatly organized in the trailer bed under the cover of the canopy. As for perishable foods, you can easily add a fridge like the Dometic CFX3 to the mix without sacrificing much space in the trailer.

I also appreciate that the tailgate of the trailer can be used as a food prep or serving area. Have your kiddos line up at the tailgate to help you prepare food, and once it’s all done, line them up again to dish up their food!

Now, I know a trailer isn’t for everyone – and that’s okay. But if you find yourself overcome by camping challenges like those described above, a compact trailer really can make all the difference.

And if you invest in something like Space Trailers, you get a trailer that isn’t just for camping. You can use it to transport kayaks to the local lake and your bikes to your favorite mountain trails, or you can take the canopy off and use it to haul large items. It’s a multi-purpose trailer that can help you solve all sorts of challenges!

But don’t take my word for it…have a peek at the Space Trailers website to get all the details about these innovative solutions to common camping challenges!
