Have a Lot of Gear? The Smuggler by SasquatchXC Can Store It All (and Then Some)

If you’re like me, you’ve accumulated quite a lot of overlanding and camping gear over the years. And while I never need everything I have for every trip, having a spot for everything in my trailer is nice.

Therein lies the problem…

Most overlanding trailers simply don’t have the space for all my gear, which means before every trip, I’m pulling things out I don’t need, cluttering up my garage, and putting things in that I do need. If only there were a trailer that could accommodate all my stuff and keep it neatly organized, too!

Well, there is! It’s The Smuggler from SasquatchXC, and there isn’t a trailer in its class with more room for gear.

Let’s dive in and explore this incredible trailer in more detail.

Table of Contents

The Smuggler Has Storage, Storage, and More Storage

When I said The Smuggler has a lot of storage, I meant it. It’s 90 cubic feet of storage, in fact – an industry best (which is one reason why this trailer was on my list of the best expedition trailers of 2023).

About 53 cubic feet of storage is inside the trailer, which is accessible via two access doors. Both doors are lockable and have compression latches to ensure the safety of whatever gear you have inside.

The interior cargo compartment isn’t just an open box, though. You’ll find USB, 12-volt, and AC power points, an LED floodlight so you can see what gear is where, and exterior LED lights above both doors to illuminate your foray into the storage area even further.

On top of that, the floor is made of aluminum (which keeps things light) and bed-lined for durability. No matter if you need a place to stash your tent, your clothes, dog food, or something in between, this storage bay will keep it dry and safe.

Then, there’s more space to store gear on the exterior of The Smuggler. Up top is a custom-designed aluminum roof rack with four T-track cross bars for attaching whatever accessories you might need or want. The rack sits up off the roof of the trailer, providing storage underneath for gear and a platform above it for your rooftop tent.

Or, if you want additional covered storage, you can add a Squatch Box – a custom-designed storage box that fits under the roof rack. This box is perfect for holding two solar panels and a custom-made fold-up camp table. And with an optional expedition rack system, you can add storage on top of the side boxes where you can keep recovery gear and RotoPax. Nice!

You’ll also find four custom-made aluminum side boxes, each of which has weatherstripping and sealed compression latches. Each box also has LED lighting (which is independently controlled for each box, by the way). You can add optional shelving to these boxes to assist in organizing smaller items, leave the boxes unshelved to accommodate larger items or do a combination of both.

That Kitchen, Though…

Like I said, this trailer can store all your gear and then some! Part of the “then some” component is that this trailer is much more than a rolling storage unit. It also has an awesome kitchen that allows you to cook meals of all sizes and types while you’re out adventuring.

Pop open the The Smuggler’s rear door and you’ll find the galley, which features a three-bay kitchen cabinet system with shelves and two drawers with dividers. There’s a stainless steel countertop for meal prep, a custom fridge shelf with LED lighting and a 12-volt power supply just waiting for your favorite fridge, and a stainless steel sink with a fold down glass lid.

Other kitchen features include the following:

  • Furrion 3-burner LP gas cooktop
  • On-demand hot water to the sink (and the outdoor shower, too)
  • LED kitchen lighting
  • 12-volt and USB outlets, as well as a GFI-protected 120-volt outlet
  • 36-gallon water tank with a self-priming pump and accumulator

You can also add an optional stainless steel fold-down prep table to the spare tire rack to give you even more space for whipping up fantastic campsite meals!

SasquatchXC Put This Trailer on a Killer Chassis

Having tons of storage and a fantastic kitchen is great, but it does you no good if the trailer doesn’t have the chops to go off-road. Well, this trailer’s chassis is every bit as impressive as its storage capacity and chef’s kitchen…

For starters, The Smuggler comes standard with SasquatchXC’s advanced Bigfoot coil-over independent suspension system. This suspension is engineered specifically for Sasquatch campers and provides a smooth towing experience whether you’re on-road or off.

Then, the suspension is paired with 32.5-inch 285/70R17 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 Tires (with full size spare) wrapped around 17-inch black steel wheels. You can upgrade to aluminum Method wheels if you like.

The frame is made of 4” x 2” aluminum that’s powder-coated for durability. The lifetime warranty on the frame gives you even more peace of mind about its long-term functionality! And with electric trailer brakes and a manual parking brake, you can bring this bad boy to a stop with ease.

The Smuggler has many other components that make it a high-quality option for your outdoor adventures:

  • Ark 2-inch 360-degree articulating coupler
  • Ark XO 500 or 750 extreme off-road tongue jack
  • Full-length running boards with bed lining
  • Spare tire rack with integrated lighting and a 2-inch receiver

Now, I know what you’re thinking…

A trailer with all this storage space and amenities must be obscenely heavy, right? Well, you’d be wrong! The Smuggler tips the scales at just 1,500 pounds dry. This trailer isn’t overly large, either – it’s 171 inches long with a 64-inch track width and is 72 inches high. At that size, with the chassis components discussed earlier, The Smuggler can go just about anywhere your tow vehicle can take it.
