Nearly three years ago, I bought my first Front Runner Expander camping chair. I wanted something small yet robust, something portable yet comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that this chair delivered on all fronts!

Front Runner Expander Camping Chair Basic Specs
The Front Runner Expander camping chair has a black powder-coated steel frame that offers the ultimate durability for outdoor adventures. The black 600D polyester fabric that makes up the seat and back is also extremely durable, not to mention easy to clean.
When unfolded, this chair has a seat height of 17 inches, which is ideal for sitting at a table (like my Tailgater Tire Table shown above), even for my young son. And at 20.5″ long, 17.5″ wide, and 31″ tall at the back, this chair is plenty big for adults, too. This chair will accommodate up to 253 pounds.
Better still, the chair is compact and lightweight, weighing just nine pounds!

Front Runner Expander Camping Chair Setup and Portability
As you can see in the demonstration video above, the Front Runner Expander camping chair is extremely easy to set up and take down.
Simply extend the chair’s telescopic legs, unfold the arms and seat back, and you’re ready to go! In a matter of seconds, the chair transforms from 2.4″ wide by 17.5″ long by 16.4″ high to a perfectly-sized chair for your camping and overlanding needs.
Of course, the portability of this chair is worth mentioning, too. Since it folds down to 1/16th of its unfolded size, it’s easy to carry from the truck or trailer to your fireside spot. What’s more, the folding design is ideal for overlanding and camping because the Front Runner Expander camping chair hardly takes up any space.
How I Use the Front Runner Expander Camping Chair
Even though camping and overlanding are my escapes from reality, I can’t always leave work behind. As such, I need a comfortable place to get some work done while I’m on the road, and the Front Runner Expander camping chair is certainly part of that equation.
As I mentioned earlier, the 17″ seat height is ideal for sitting at my Tailgater Tire Table to get some work done. And since the Tire Table is just as easy to set up as the Front Runner Expander, I can get my “overlanding office” up and ready to go in no time.
Fortunately, work isn’t the only thing I use this chair for. My son and I sit in these chairs at the Tailgater Tire Table to enjoy a great meal together. We also use these chairs to enjoy some time by the campfire before bed.
As I noted earlier, these chairs are extremely small, so it’s easy to bring two of them along, even though space is limited in my Jeep Gladiator and my Turtleback Expedition trailer. However, the ingenious design of these chairs means you can bring three, four, five, or more of them and give your family and friends a comfortable place to sit and relax around camp, too.

When I have my RBM Outdoors Panda inflatable tent with me, I use the chair to sit back and watch movies on my laptop. It’s also handy for sitting down to put on socks and shoes, so I don’t have to roll around on my Exped Megamat to get dressed.
