Before diving into the optional features you can add to the Patrol XCT, let’s look at just a few of its standard features…
The trailer rides on a Timbren HD 2,200-pound axleless suspension paired with 31-inch AT tires wrapped around 15-inch wheels. With a texture powder coat on the frame, you can rest assured it’ll stand up to the rigors of off-road travel for years and years to come.
At just 1,250 pounds, the Patrol XCT is extremely lightweight. However, it’s stuffed with gear storage options that allow you to bring everything you need for an extended off-road trip. For example, there’s a tongue box with driver and passenger-side doors and a cargo basket on top, a rear tailgate to access the trailer’s interior storage, and a 16-inch tall custom roof rack for yet more storage.

Of course, the roof rack is also built to handle heavy loads, like a rooftop tent and awning, if that’s something you wish to add, too.
In other words, this trailer has the off-road features, storage capacity, and maneuverability you demand for off-road travel. But, we’re here to find out how you can enhance those capabilities further, so let’s get into four top upgrades to consider!

Protect the Trailer With an Armor Package

One of the best upgrades you can make to the Patrol XCT is adding an armor package…
The armor package includes a front step to assist in accessing the trailer. There’s also a slotted rear basket around the fender, which is a great place to allow you to drip-dry gear. Likewise, the rear basket offers excellent storage space in addition to the loads of storage the trailer already has.
Of course, the armor package provides protection from boulder bruises while you’re on the trail. It pulls double duty as a rock slider, too, allowing you to navigate really tricky tracks with less worry about the damage you might do to your trailer.
Add in a powder-coated finish to match the trailer’s frame and fenders, and you have the makings of an ideal upgrade for the Rustic Mountain Overlanding Patrol XCT. It helps that the armor package is made in the USA, too!
Upgrade the Patrol XCT With a Box Slide

The Tembo Tusk Tongue Box Slide available from Rustic Mountain Overland is a custom-built accessory that fits perfectly into the Patrol XCT’s tongue box.
But why would you need or want it?
Well, that’s simple! The slide allows you to more easily access items you have stored in the front box. Add the slide to your favorite cooler or gear box, grab the handle and pull it out, and voila – you can grab what you need without digging through a disorganized mess inside the front box.
What’s more, the Tembo Tusk slide allows you to use the front storage box as a fridge/galley combo. Add the fridge/freezer of your choice, and you’ll have chilled food and ice-cold drinks at the ready.
Get a Spare Tire and Mount for the Patrol XCT

I don’t know about you, but one of my greatest worries when I take my trailer off-road is getting a flat. After all, the whole point of getting off-road is to navigate the rough stuff to get to your favorite off-grid camping spot, so, yeah, there are bound to be some dangers lurking along the way that might lead to a flat.
But with Rustic Mountain’s spare tire and mount, you can put some of those worries aside. The made-in-the-USA mount attaches to the front of the tongue box, where you can easily access the spare tire if needed.
Speaking of the tire, its wheel comes with standard 5×3.4 and 6×5.5 fitments. The tire itself is a 31×10.5×15 BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain tire, which offers superb traction and performance in a variety of driving conditions.
Light the Way With an Upgraded Light Bar

Lighting for off-road travel is another must for improving your experience, and Rustic Mountain Overland delivers with an optional lighting upgrade with a Baja Designs ONX6 30-inch driving combo LED light bar.
This light bar will light up the terrain around you with a whopping 31,910 lumens. The integrated High-Speed Spot reflector allows the light to project further than any other LED light bar on the market.
Use this light bar at the top of the Patrol XCT’s roof rack to project light forward, or position it on the back of the trailer to provide illumination for backing up. Alternatively, you might put one on either side of the trailer to provide light at camp – though it’ll be bright!
This trailer is already wholly capable; but as noted earlier, having these upgrades can make your off-road travel experience in a Patrol XCT all the better. If you’re the proud owner of one of these trailers, it might be worth it to investigate these and other upgrades offered by Rustic Mountain Overland!
