What is the easiest to use knife and ax sharpener that doesn't require power or a PHD in geometry?

Nothing fancy, just a sharpening stone

I second the sharpening stone. I use a circular puck with different grits on each side, but the key is to use it often enough to get familiar with using it properly. I find it therapeutic to sharpen my axes.

Sharpening stone has always worked just fine for me. It's what my father used and what I grew up on using when sharpening my knifes and axes.

Sharpening stone for me as well, inexpensive and easy to use. Not to mention it's size is small.
