Just curious, how many people have been robbed or attempted to have been robbed while traveling overland in South America?

Just curious, how many people have been robbed or attempted to have been robbed while traveling overland in South America. I read a lot of stories but it just seems odd. I have lived in Colombia and have driven all over the country for 10 years or so and never had a problem yet I hear about people being robbed all the time in Peru and Colombia. Any opinions from experienced travelers would be appreciated.

I've been down there and had no issues. On the other hand as you said many people have. I think it depends on the exact locations you visit
