is the 1st gen Touareg any good off road?

I need a cheapish vehicle to commute in and do some overlanding but I need it to be comfortable. The prices of the Touaregs seem very appealing, does anyone know if they are any good off road?

They are capable off road. However, there are many complains regarding reliability so I am not sure this is a clever option
