How are you starting fire when you have no lighter?

We went camping Friday and managed to forget a lighter! So couldn't start our fire to cook our main meals. Lucky we had snakes and a few things to eat that didn't need to be cooked. But now that we are back I want to have a couple different ways in my kit to start a fire. Obviously having a couple lighters, but trying to find another means of starting a fire. Something that is reliable and easy to use.

You mind me asking what are you using?

I started carrying an electric candle lighter in both my trailer and Cruiser. USB and fairly quick to charge. My wire uses one for her candles. Using it everyday, they seem to have around a two year life span.

For when nothing else works, I have several 4" long Flints stashed across all my kits. Firesteel. These throw off a huge spark if used with the companies striker. Sometimes I use it to start campfires. It has no issue igniting dry grass or paper.

Are you asking if I'm rubbing two sticks together? No, not that adventurous. I have plenty of torches in my rig, so that is always how we start the fires.

My friends would give me crap when i would start our fires with a steel and flint. They would all stand around, impatiently with lighters.

So question for you on the steel and flint. I have one I had picked up last year. When new, does it require you scrap it a few times to get paint removed?

This is the type I use. The real thin ones you see at the sporting good stores don't put out enough spark to do much.
