Are truck based campers worth it?

What type of driving will you be doing mate. I believe truck based campers are great for global expeditions but not so good for short trips to the tough trails and back
 
The slimmer and ligheterweight pop up truck bed campers are worth it yes. I wouldn't go for those huge North American ones as the completely ruin the dynamics of the vehicle
