First Impressions: KC Hilites Gravity Pro6 LED Light Bar

KC is an iconic name in the off-roading and overlanding community. Their lights are synonymous with quality, durability, functionality, and ease of use.

So, naturally, when I started outfitting my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with accessories, I had to include KC lights in the mix.

I actually have multiple lights all around my Jeep, but for the purposes of this article, I’ll be talking specifically about the Gravity Pro6 LED light bar on the roof, pictured in the images above and below.

Let’s start this party by first talking about some tech specs…

These lights are Cree XPL HD LEDs with a color temperature of 5000K that gives you beautiful, clean, and crisp light to light up the night.

Wattage on my 8-light 50-inch bar is 160W. The light bar is 6.06” tall, 3.33” deep, and 51.625” wide.

In terms of raw lumens, the Gravity Pro6 pumps out 16,100lm with 6,100 lux at 10 meters, 610,000 candela, and a beam distance of 1,562 meters. What’s more, each light is powered by KC’s G6 LEC optical insert. This insert has patented Gravity Reflective Diode technology that ensures you get the maximum light output.

Plus, these lights have targeted light distribution and you can use a combination of light patterns to give you well-balanced lighting performance. For example, driving beam lights give you the extreme forward light you need to forge ahead on dark trails. In combination with Wide-40 optical inserts, you get a wider area of coverage to give you enhanced visibility on either side of your rig.

So, in other words, these suckers will give you plenty of light for your nighttime off-roading adventures.

Gravity Pro6: What’s in the Box

KC light bar with 8 lights

My 50-inch light bar included the bar itself, eight lights, mounting brackets and hardware for my vehicle, a performance plug-and-play wiring harness, and classic yellow and black KC light covers.

I’ll discuss the mounting brackets and hardware in just a moment in more detail, but for now just know that the install could not have been easier. It was a complete breeze!

Since my Jeep has a gray, black, and red color scheme, I wanted to switch things up with the yellow and black KC light covers. So, I hopped onto eBay, found some red film, and applied it to the covers to give them a matching red look. I think it looks pretty awesome!

Something else that comes “in the box” with these lights is an impressive 23-year limited lifetime warranty. Having such a long warranty is definitely a bonus, but honestly I can’t imagine ever needing to cash in on the warranty. It’s obvious when you’re installing these lights that they are beautifully made and will perform well for far longer than I own this truck!

As I noted a moment ago, the install of these lights could not have been simpler. It’s literally two bolts on the sides of the truck (shown above) and one in the center for a foot that pushes against the roof of the truck, and you’re good to go. I opted for locking nuts on either end to prevent someone from stealing the light bar off my truck.

Honestly, the most “difficult” part of the install was simply customizing the light output of each light to my liking. I will admit that eight lights is a bit overkill, but at least I have a wide range of customization options in terms of wide or drive lights!

This is due in part to KC’s patented Infinity Ring system. Each individual Pro6 light can be linked together to form a complete light bar system. Each ring has a hinge and bolt design that gives you virtually endless modularity. You can expand the system as you see fit and adjust the lights to fit your precise needs.

I ordered my Jeep with auxiliary switches (shown below), so wiring was a breeze too. It was a simple matter of running the wires to the engine compartment, finding the correct wires for the switch I wanted to use, and I was ready to rock.

Once I had these bad boys installed on the Jeep, I knew I made the right choice.

As I mentioned earlier, KC lights are synonymous with quality, so really there was no other option in my mind. Plus, these things just look awesome. I’m not a huge fan of the rectangular light bars you see so often these days. And the round light design of the KC lights is a perfect fit for the round headlights on my Jeep.

Something else I have been impressed with right off the bat is the quality of the light. The 5000K color temperature is perfect – it doesn’t strain your eyes like some cooler color temperatures often do. Instead, you get clean, daylight-like light that will guide you on your off-roading adventures.

Plus, since these lights sit right at the top of the windshield, they don’t stick up above the roof. This gives you a cleaner look and it helps prevent additional wind noise.

Now, I will say that I have not been able to fully field-test these lights yet. COVID and wildfires have caused me to delay some of my bigger trips, but I have managed to get out for a couple of short adventures with my son, Caleb, pictured below.

However, the times I’ve been able to turn these suckers on, they have been beyond impressive. I simply cannot tell you just how bright these lights really are.

In fact, I have a buddy with these same lights on his Jeep, and I’ve been on some off-roading adventures with him and have seen these lights in action on the darkest of nights far from civilization. Believe me when I say they are precisely what the doctor ordered for nighttime off-road adventures!

I’ll offer a long-term review of these lights in the coming months, but I at least wanted to share my initial impressions with you. I have to say, I am extremely pleased with the Gravity Pro6 setup, and I fully expect that I will continue to be impressed with it once I really put it through its paces off-road.

In the meantime, check out the KC Hilites Gravity Pro6 LED light bar to get all the details on this incredible off-roading light bar.
