EcoFlow Glacier Review

I’ve had the EcoFlow Glacier portable refrigerator for a little over a month now, and spoiler alert – this thing is fantastic.

To be fair, this isn’t just a refrigerator. It’s also a freezer and an ice maker, all wrapped into one fantastic little package. In fact, this is the world’s first such gadget with all three functionalities combined into one.

In this EcoFlow Glacier review, I’ll give you a detailed look at its specs, features, and amenities, and I’ll share how this little guy has worked during my overlanding adventures over the last month. Let’s get to it!

What is the EcoFlow Glacier?

ecoflow glacier top

As I stated in the introduction, the EcoFlow Glacier is a three-in-one refrigerator, freezer, and ice maker purpose-built for camping and overlanding adventures. Think of it like a shape-shifting small appliance that can quickly and seamlessly adjust to your specific needs.

A great example is the removable divider separating the Glacier’s two zones. Install the divider and use the independent temperature control on either side for fridge and freezer sections. Or, if you have a lot of food that needs refrigeration take out the divider and use it all as fridge space. You also have the option of using the entire space as a freezer.

This customization is a huge benefit when camping and overlanding because space is at a premium. Having something that can pull double duty – or in this case, triple duty – is a major bonus!

EcoFlow Glacier Review: Basic Specs

The EcoFlow Glacier is roughly 30.5 x 15 x 17.5 inches in size and tips the scales at 50.7 pounds. It’s not exactly lightweight, but it isn’t overly big or cumbersome, either. Again, this is a three-in-one situation, so I can look past the size.

Of course, EcoFlow designed the Glacier to be easily transported, so there’s wheels and a handle you can add to it if you need something that goes from the truck to the campsite. Nice!

The Glacier has an operating temperature range from -13 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. With 38 liters of space in single-zone format or 36 liters in dual-zone format, you get all the room you need for your food for a long weekend in the woods.

The unit is compatible with an optional 298Wh battery that’s 9.7 × 3.6 × 2.7 inches and weighs four pounds. The battery has a cycle life of 800 cycles to 80 percent.

EcoFlow Glacier Review: Features

ecoflow glacier battery

What’s so great about the EcoFlow Glacier is that it’s a truly portable refrigerator. The plug-in battery (shown above) I just spoke of gives the unit up to 40 hours of runtime before it needs a recharge. Of course, the Glacier can run off of 12V DC power, solar power, or AC power, too, which charges the battery at the same time, by the way (charging times are about two hours via solar, AC, and 24V DC and 4 hours via 12V DC).

There are a host of other batteries and power stations from EcoFlow that you can use with the Glacier to extend its runtime even further. For example, the Glacier will run for up to 16 days (days!!) with the EcoFlow Delta Pro power station.

Better still, the Glacier has a built-in 100W max USB-C charging port, so if your phone, laptop, or another device is running low on juice, you can give it a quick charge.

EcoFlow has made usability quick and easy with an integrated app that gives you intelligent temperature control in the palm of your hand. You can adjust the temperature of the Glacier whether it’s in single-zone or dual-zone operation. Connectivity via WiFi or Bluetooth enables you to get constant updates to your smartphone regarding the Glacier’s performance and battery life, too. You can even tell it to start making ice from your phone!

Speaking of ice, the EcoFlow Glacier has a 120W compressor that produces 18 ice cubes in 12 minutes flat. No more lugging around big ol’ bags of ice that you don’t need – take the Glacier with you, tell it to fire up some ice cubes, and you’ll have an ice-cold beverage ready in no time flat.

EcoFlow Glacier Review: How Has It Performed?

Let me start by saying that my EcoFlow Glacier is no garage queen. This thing has been used and used some more over the time I’ve had it, and, man, has it been impressive!

The first thing that really impressed me about the Glacier is how quickly it cools down. EcoFlow says that quick-freeze mode lowers the internal temperature from 86 down to 32 degrees in about 15 minutes. I haven’t had an opportunity to get the Glacier up to 86 degrees, but what I can say first-hand is that moving from room temperature to 32 degrees takes about 10 minutes. Nice!

Another favorite feature is that the Glacier is really quiet. I don’t go camping and overlanding to hear the drone of appliances and power sources, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this little guy is quiet as a mouse.

I keep the Glacier on the dual-zone setting most of the time. This is a great option when my son comes with me on my adventures because I can keep his ice cream treats frozen on one side and our usual grub nice and cool on the other.

Now, even though this rig is meant to be portable, I’ve set it up in the bed of my truck and run it off of 12V DC power from a cigarette-style plug I added to the bed. This option works best for me and my needs, but as I noted earlier, you can get up to 40 hours of runtime off the plug-in battery, so if you really want to cut the cord, this thing will be up for the challenge!

From the get-go, the EcoFlow Glacier has been thoroughly impressive. It works well, offers smart controls via my phone, and gives me the flexibility of having a fridge, freezer, ice maker, or all three in a neat and tidy package. What’s not to like?!

EcoFlow Glacier Price

The EcoFlow Glacier is normally $1,099, though you can get it for $999.00 at the moment. Sure, that’s a lot of money, but this is definitely a you-get-what-you-pay-for situation. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to leave my food supply to chance when I’m out in the boonies for a few days!

As I noted earlier, my EcoFlow Glacier has been thrown into the belly of the beast on locations near and far over the last month or so, and it has been an absolute rockstar in every situation. I’ll continue testing it in the coming weeks and months and offer an update on its long-term performance, so stay tuned!
