Fans of natural cave systems and geology will be in awe of Cathedral Caverns State Park. The park is in the north of the state, close to Tennessee’s border, and has over 40 campsites. There is a two-night minimum during spring and summer, and you will want to make reservations well in advance since it’s not one of the biggest campgrounds in Alabama.

You can only explore the caves with a certified guide, and if you are camping at one of the campgrounds, you receive a discounted rate on a cave tour. Another unique attraction in Cathedral Caverns State Park is gem mining. While people of all ages can do it, it’s a particularly good activity for children.

The park is found on the shores of Lake Martin and is like a natural amusement park for outdoor enthusiasts!

Many campsites are located directly on the water, making it a perfect home base to practice water sports. The park is home to the Alabama Wildlife Center, which runs various education programs on local flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for nature lovers. Bikers flock to the park to ride on the endless trails and try out the pump track and BMX course, while golfers will be thrilled to discover the park has a driving range and an 18-hole golf course.
