The Ford Bronco DR Can Be Yours for a Cool $250,000

Ford

I think we can all agree that the new Ford Bronco has been a smash hit. And when a vehicle is a huge success, it frees up the automaker to build wild and fantastical versions of said vehicle.

Well, Ford has done just that with the Bronco DR

What is the Bronco DR?

For starters, the DR in the name stands for Desert Runner. This bad boy is purpose-built for events like the Baja 1000.

Inside is a roll-cage that wraps around just two front seats. In the back is a rear-mounted radiator along with a 65-gallon fuel tank.

Under the hood is a 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and while the precise output of the engine hasn’t been revealed, Ford has at least said that it will be north of 400 horses.

Taming all that power is a 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission and the transfer case both come from the new F-150. The Bronco DR also comes with Multimatic spool-valve shocks (like those on the Ford GT) with greater suspension travel and custom lower aluminum control arms in the front. There are bigger custom-built half-axles and electronic locking diffs on the front and back as well.

While the truck has all-new body panels made of fiberglass, the frame is a holdover from the street version of the 4-door Bronco. Also coming over from the stock Bronco are the brake calipers and rotors.

What Other Features Can Be Expected?

To sail across the sand, the Bronco DR has massive 37-inch M/T tires. To ensure this rig can get up and over dunes and other obstacles, it has an approach angle of 47 degrees, a departure angle of 37 degrees, and a breakover angle of 33 degrees.

This incredible truck goes on sale in 2022 (as a 2023 model), so you have some time to prepare to buy one. But you’ll need to act quickly – only 50 will be made to begin with. Perhaps a bigger obstacle is that it will likely cost somewhere in the range of $250,000 and it won’t be street legal, so it will be a very expensive toy.
