Is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme the Most Capable One Yet?

There is no doubt that the Wrangler is one of the most capable off-roaders on the current market. With solid axles, lockers, exceptional wheel articulation, and a body shaped around the task of off-roading it quickly puts to shame most new trucks when the going gets tough.

The Rubicon is the most capable one you can buy from the factory but with the 2021 Chicago Autoshow Jeep has decided to showcase the Rubicon Xtreme – a Wrangler on 35s with a V8 and a 1.5-inch lift over the normal Rubicon.

What are the Changes in the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Over the Normal Rubicon?

As mentioned above, the Xtreme package offers 35-inch BF Goodrich tires on bead lock wheels and a 1.5-inch lift. These modifications bring total ground clearance to 12.9 inches, approach angles to 44.7 degrees, and water fording to 33.6 inches.

The upgrades do not stop at suspension and wheels though. Under the hood, there is a 470HP Hemi V8 to ensure you completely annihilate the silence you went out in nature to find.

Because of the bigger tires, Jeep has decided to regear the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme to 4.56 ratios; therefore, maintaining the low crawl ratio. Even the swing gate at the back has been reinforced to be able to carry the additional weight of the bigger spare tire – such details are the difference between building something yourself and getting it from the manufacturer.

How Do You Distinguish a Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme From a Normal Rubicon?

Other than the big tires, bead lock wheels, 392 badges on the hood and a big hood scoop, the Rubicon Xtreme has a small lip that extends the wheel arches to help cover the bigger wheels. Quad exhaust tips are also located at the back to help that huge Hemi breathe. Therefore, if you see the small arch extensions, quad exhaust tips, and all the other changes, it means that you’re looking at the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme.

Do I Have to Get the V8 to Have the Xtreme Package?

You can get it on the V6 and the diesel as well; therefore if you do not want to pay the extra money for the V8 and need a slightly more economical version of the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme you can go for the smaller engines.

Pricing of This New Wrangler

A lot of upgrades have been done to this Jeep and I am sure you didn’t expect this one to be cheap didn’t you? Pricing for the V8 version starts at $77,000 but with the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme package you will be paying over $80,000 and that’s if you manage to find a dealer that has one available.

With manufacturers electrifying more and more of their models to meet the strict emissions rules the 392 Rubicon Xtreme may be one of the last of its kind and because of that I believe it will end up being a collectors Jeep. So, if you want one you will have to search hard for it.
