If you follow my ramblings here on 4WDTalk, you know that my primary shelter when I’m camping is my rooftop tent on my Turtleback Expedition Trailer.
However, there are times when I need a ground tent – like when I want to pack up quickly and hit the road without towing a trailer or when I meet up with friends or family and need additional sleeping space.
On those occasions, I turn to my Overlandish Base Camp V2, which I’ve had for nearly eight months. In that time, I’ve used this tent in all sorts of environments and for all kinds of purposes – as my sleeping quarters, guest sleeping quarters, a “living room” for everyone at camp, and even an office space. In every instance, the Overlandish Base Camp V2 has been a total rock star.
So that got me thinking…what is it about this tent that sets it apart from other ground tents? Let’s find out!

The Overlandish Base Camp V2 Has a Spacious Interior and Impeccable Design
At the heart of the Overlandish Base Camp V2’s appeal is its incredibly spacious interior and thoughtful design.
The tent offers an expansive living space, measuring a substantial 11’8″ from corner to corner and boasting 6’9″ of headroom in the center when set up. It can comfortably accommodate up to six adults sleeping on the floor, so it’s perfect for group outings or family camping trips.
But, as I mentioned a moment ago, this tent isn’t just for sleeping…
With so much space, it makes a great lounge area for camping with family or friends. Set it up in the middle of camp, add a few camp chairs and tables inside, and you have a ready-made shelter for playing games, eating dinner, and otherwise enjoying each other’s company.
The tent’s design incorporates two large doors, each equipped with bug mesh, ensuring easy access and proper ventilation while keeping pesky insects at bay. The low thresholds at the entrances prevent tripping hazards, while the Velcro on either side of the doors allows them to be secured out of the way. This design consideration enhances the overall convenience and ease of use.

You Get All-Season Versatility
When venturing into the great outdoors, weather conditions can be unpredictable. The Overlandish Base Camp V2 addresses this challenge with its all-season versatility.
The tent features a three-layer proprietary PU5000 water-resistant exterior, making it highly durable and capable of withstanding the elements during every season.
Furthermore, the tent’s thoughtful design includes three double-sealed air vents on the roof. These vents ensure continuous airflow through the interior, maintaining a comfortable atmosphere during both hot and cold weather camping.
Additionally, the included rainfly provides added protection against rain, snow, and other adverse weather conditions, making the Base Camp V2 a reliable companion for all your outdoor expeditions.
If you enjoy camping rain or shine, heat or cold, and all points in between, having a tent that’s purpose-built to withstand the rigors of those conditions is a must. Whether I’ve been in the Sierra Nevadas during a wet spring, in the Arizona desert in the early summer, or points in between, the Base Camp V2 has provided me with a comfortable, dry space to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones – that’s just what you want in a tent!
The Base Camp V2 Features Quality Construction and Durability
A tent’s ability to endure the rigors of the outdoors is paramount for a successful overlanding trip. The Overlandish Base Camp V2 shines in this regard with its quality construction and durability.
The tent floor is reinforced with super-laminated material, offering waterproof properties and resistance against punctures from rocks and sticks. This rugged design ensures the tent remains reliable even in rough terrain, safeguarding you from potential hazards.
Even in strong winds, the Base Camp V2’s remarkable stability further speaks to its quality craftsmanship. While other tents may waver and produce all sorts of noise, the Base Camp V2 stands firm, providing a serene and undisturbed night’s sleep.
In fact, it’s truly impressive how stout this tent is when the wind kicks up. On a particularly windy trip in Arizona, my rooftop tent was flapping in the breeze so loudly that it was difficult to sleep. And though I worried that the Base Camp would blow away in the night, it was absolutely rock-solid (and quiet!).
You won’t have terrible winds on every camping trip, but it’s nice to know that if the wind kicks up, the Base Camp V2 will hold steady (thanks in part to the guy lines you can see in the image above). Again, this is a testament to the quality of this tent and the craftsmanship that Overlandish put into building it.
Enjoy Easy Setup and Portability
Overlanding is all about freedom and adventure, and the last thing you want is to struggle with setting up camp…
The Overlandish Base Camp V2 sets a new standard for ease of setup and portability. The process is straightforward and hassle-free, making it an ideal choice for solo travelers or groups that need a quick and efficient camp setup. It takes just a few minutes to set up, and as I noted earlier, once it’s set up, this bad boy isn’t going anywhere!
The tent also conveniently collapses into a compact carrying case, offering the advantage of easy storage and transportation. Even with limited storage space, the Base Camp V2 can fit comfortably in short-bed trucks, making it a perfect choice for overlanding enthusiasts like me.
Eight Months In, and the Base Camp V2 Has Not Disappointed!
When I picked up this tent about eight months ago, I could not be more excited to test it out. Now that I’ve had the chance to use it on many different trips and in many different locations, I can safely say that this is hands-down one of the best tents I’ve ever had.
When you go camping, you want to enjoy yourself and get lost in the beauty around you – not spend the whole time setting up and tearing down camp or worrying about whether your tent will stand up to the elements.
In that regard, the Overlandish Base Camp V2 gives you the freedom to enjoy yourself because it’s such a high-quality, easy-to-use tent. Often, the best camping gear is the stuff you don’t think about. That’s because it’s doing its job if you aren’t thinking about it!
