If you ask me, the best part of camping is being out in nature. I love the fresh air, the beautiful scenery, and the ability to unplug from real life and enjoy a simple weekend in the woods.
So, the question is, how do you maximize your time in nature when you’re camping?
There certainly needs to be a commitment on your part to pack up and actually go. But you also need the proper camping setup that allows you to enjoy every bit of nature that you can. That’s where the TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear comes in…
As you can see in the video above by TAXA Outdoors, the Woolly Bear is an ideal overlanding and camping trailer because it’s compact and lightweight, yet it offers loads of storage, and with a rooftop tent, you can bring two friends along and have space for everyone to catch some shut-eye. In other words, if you’re looking for an adventure rig that allows you to get way off-grid and enjoy nature, this is it!
Let’s have a closer look at this bad boy in this TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear review.

TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear Specifications
As I noted in the introduction, the TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear is a compact, lightweight rig that offers you loads of storage and a comfortable, elevated place to sleep.
At less than 11 feet long and just 1,270 pounds dry, this trailer is a perfect companion for your small SUV, like a two-door Jeep Wrangler. Heck, your Subaru or even your UTV can tow this thing!
The Woolly Bear is also just over five feet wide, making it more than capable of being towed down narrow, curving tracks to your favorite campsite. And even fully loaded (the GVWR is 2,100 pounds) there’s little worry of the trailer getting bogged down on the trail!
The TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear can accommodate 830 pounds of gear. And despite its small size, all that gear has a home!
For example, the 91.7” x 33.25” laser-cut steel cargo deck can accommodate most two or three-person tents, or, if you have a ground tent, you can use that space to store up to 600 pounds of gear. Likewise, the Woolly Bear comes with six powder-coated steel cabinets of varying sizes to accommodate smaller items. There’s also under-galley storage, a cooler storage drawer, and a 51.5″L x 16″W x 30″H main storage compartment, all of which have locks.
Where do you put your wet items, you ask? Well, the Woolly Bear has a 32″ x 15″ wet storage bay to keep your life jackets, swim trunks, and other wet stuff away from your other gear.
All that storage space rides on a powder-coated steel chassis, a torsion axle suspension with electric brakes, and 15-inch steel wheels with 235/75R15 all-terrain tires (plus a full-size spare). Add in 12 inches of ground clearance, and you have the makings of a highly capable trailer for your off-roading and camping adventures.
TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear Features
When you see the term “fully featured,” you should think of the Woolly Bear…
I mean, this rig has loads of features for any trailer, let alone something so compact and lightweight. For example, it has a full-size integrated camp kitchen complete with food and gear storage, plus the aforementioned cooler slide-out. There’s LED lighting for cooking at night, a stainless steel countertop, and a Birch plywood kitchen organizer for keeping all your kitchen essentials neatly organized.
This trailer has an incredible number of lights, too. There’s LED underbody lighting so you can see what’s underfoot, LED cargo area lights, and the LED kitchen lights I mentioned above.
You’ll also find an abundance of outlets (12V, USB) for running your electrical appliances and charging up your devices. This includes a 12V outlet inside a lockable storage drawer that’s ideal for up to a 45-quart cooler.
Other handy features include:
- 800-pound swivel tongue jack to maneuver the trailer more easily
- Powder-coated gravel guards to protect the trailer from your off-road adventures
- Four stabilizer jacks to ensure the trailer offers a stable basecamp
- Powder-coated steel adjustable height risers that create a sturdy, elevated platform for gear or a rooftop tent
- Rear accessory hitch for adding a bike rack or other hitch-mounted accessories
- Lock ‘N Roll trailer hitch (501/508) to accommodate the rough-and-tumble nature of off-road travel
- Battery box sized for a Group 24 battery (battery not included)
So, clearly, TAXA Outdoors wasn’t messing around when they put the Woolly Bear together. This trailer is packed to the gills with features and amenities that make it the complete package, yet it’s still one of the lightest and most compact adventure trailers on the market!
Add These Options to Your TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear
As if the TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear doesn’t have enough features as it is, you can add optional accessories to the mix to make it an even more capable off-grid adventure trailer.
For example, you can add a six-foot awning (or a 23Zero Peregrine 180° R with LST awning) for protected outdoor living space (in addition to the space under a rooftop tent) as well as a mosquito net room in case you’re a glutton for punishment and like to camp in the early summer when the mosquitos are really thick.
Of course, you can also add THULE ProBar EVO 175 Adjustable Load Bars to accommodate a THULE/TEPUI 3-Person Rooftop Tent (or other THULE accessories). A propane mount and a five-pound tank round out the available options for the Woolly Bear.
It’s hard to find trailers like this that have so many features. Yet, here we are! As I’ve mentioned throughout this TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear review, this trailer has all the features and amenities you need to create a well-appointed basecamp, yet it’s all in a compact and lightweight package that’s easy to tow on- and off-road. It’s the perfect combination!
