When you’re out in nature, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of exploring, hiking, and checking off activities on your itinerary. But here’s the thing: one of the best ways to truly enjoy the outdoors is to prioritize rest. Trust me, as someone who’s spent countless nights under the stars, I’ve learned that taking the time to relax can make all the difference!

Think about it – nature is the perfect place to unwind. There’s something incredibly peaceful about sitting by a campfire, listening to the sounds of the forest, or simply lying in a hammock, soaking up the sun. By giving yourself permission to rest, you’ll find that you’re more in tune with your surroundings and more present in the moment.

It’s also important to remember that rest isn’t just about sleep. It’s about taking breaks during your hike to enjoy a scenic view, meditating by a calm lake, or even taking a lazy afternoon nap in your tent. These moments of downtime can recharge your energy and enhance your overall experience, making your time outdoors more enjoyable and fulfilling. So next time you’re out there, don’t forget to slow down and enjoy the stillness!

Step Up Your Comfort Game to Enjoy the Outdoors More

If you’re looking to make your camping trips more comfortable (who isn’t?!), investing in the right gear can make all the difference. After all, a little extra comfort can turn a good trip into a great one. Here are a few items that I’ve found that really elevate the camping experience…

First up, a quality camping chair is a game-changer. After a long day of hiking or exploring, there’s nothing better than sinking into a comfortable chair around the campfire. Look for one with good back support and maybe even a built-in cup holder for your favorite beverage. You might also prioritize something small and compact, like the Front Runner Expander (shown above). I have two of these chairs and couldn’t be happier with them!

Keep Warm With a Diesel Heater

Next, consider adding a heat source to keep the chill away in your tent. The Planar Heaters 4kw portable diesel heater is a top-notch choice. I’ve used this heater for years and am impressed each and every time by its heat output. It’s instant, dry heat, too, so there’s no sitting around waiting for my tent to warm up. And since it’s dry air, there’s no worry about condensation. Nice!

skottle grill cooking

Finally, don’t underestimate the power of a good camping grill. Being able to cook a hot meal with ease can make a huge difference, especially after a day spent in the elements. Whether you’re whipping up a simple breakfast or a full dinner, having a reliable grill makes camp cooking a breeze.

For me, it doesn’t get much better than the Skottle grill from Tembo Tusk. As you can see above, this grill offers plenty of space to cook multiple items at the same time. I love breakfast, so this bad boy is my go-to for eggs, bacon, hash browns, and so forth. But you can also use it to whip up lunch and dinner and have some good food in your belly to enjoy the outdoors even more!

As a side note, all the items discussed in this comfort section can be found at BTR Outfitters. I’ve gotten to know these folks over the years and you simply won’t find a more knowledgeable crew about all things outdoors. Whether you need a tent, a 12-volt fridge, a campervan, or something in between, the BTR Outfitters team will help you find the gear you need so you can hit the road!

Try New Things to Enjoy the Outdoors More

One of the best ways to bring new excitement to your camping or overlanding trips is to try something new. Whether it’s picking up a new skill, exploring a different type of terrain, or simply cooking a meal you’ve never made before, stepping out of your comfort zone can make your outdoor adventures even more rewarding.

Imagine setting up your camp in a spot you’ve never been to before, perhaps near a river where you can try fishing for the first time, or in the mountains where you can take on a more challenging hike. Each new experience adds a layer of excitement and keeps your trips fresh and memorable.

It’s not just about the big things, either. Even small changes, like trying out a new piece of gear or experimenting with campfire cooking techniques, can bring a sense of novelty to your routine. These little adventures encourage you to engage more deeply with your surroundings and push your boundaries, which is what makes outdoor life so fulfilling.

So, next time you head out, challenge yourself to try something different so you can enjoy the outdoors more. You’ll discover that the outdoors has so much more to offer when you’re open to new experiences!

Bring Portable Power to Enjoy the Outdoors More

FLEX Tactical 1500 Power Station

So, this tip might be a bit controversial…

I know plenty of folks who adamantly oppose having technology on camping trips. And that’s totally fine! Unplugging from the world for a few days is a great way to recharge.

However, I run multiple online companies, so being cut off from the world for days on end simply isn’t a possibility. I have to have things like my laptop, my cameras, and Starlink so I can work while I’m enjoying the outdoors. And for that, I need portable power.

Why Portable Power?

The good thing about portable power sources like the FLEX 1500 Tactical from Inergy is that they can be used for non-work things, too. Sure, I use my power station to charge my GoPro batteries, run Starlink, and so forth. But I can also use it to power my coffee pot to enjoy a hot cup of joe on a cool morning in the mountains.

What’s more, I can use my power station to keep my cameras and phone charged, that way I have the battery power needed to document my adventures – a hike here, a trip to the river there…these are the relaxing activities I love, especially if my son is with me.

What Can It Power?

The question on your mind seeing photos of the FLEX 1500 Tactical above is perhaps, “What else does it power?” Well, the answer to that question is a lot

This unit has six 115-volt AC outlets, two USB-C ports, and two USB-A ports. It also has two 5.5×2.5mm DC outputs and two 15-amp cigarette lighter ports. That’s a lot of ports!

But the FLEX 1500 Tactical doesn’t just have a lot of ports; it also has a lot of power potential. You can order the unit with a single 1 kWh battery with 1,500 watts of continuous output (3,000 watts of surge power) and get all sorts of utility out of the power station. But if you have greater power needs, you can add a second, third, or fourth battery to expand its power. In fact, you can add up to 96 batteries if you want!

In other words, this power station can go above and beyond for your trips so you can enjoy the outdoors more. With a plethora of power ports, tons of available power, and a rugged and durable build that stands up to hail, rain, snow, and cold, you can use a unit like the FLEX 1500 Tactical to charge your e-bike, run a crock pot full of your favorite dinner, run a heater to get your tent toasty warm – you name it. That sounds like enjoying the outdoors to me!
