4 Easy Camping Breakfast Ideas

Photo by Bryan Gillespie via iStock

I love breakfast. In fact, I love breakfast so much, I often eat it for dinner!

But…what I don’t love is cleaning up after making breakfast. If it’s pancakes or waffles, the sink in my camper gets overrun with dishes very quickly. It’s the opposite of an easy camping breakfast!

I also don’t love the breakfast cooking smell that lingers in the camper. Bacon is wonderful to eat for breakfast. It’s not wonderful to smell for the rest of the trip.

Having said all that, you can do a few things for an easy camping breakfast – things that won’t stink up your RV and are easy to prepare, too.

Make Your Easy Camping Breakfast Ideas Ahead of Time

Camping is supposed to be relaxing and fun. Waking up early to put  breakfast together and then cleaning up all morning is not my idea of relaxing or fun…

One of the best ways to ensure you have more time to hang out and relax while camping is to prepare your meals ahead of time. The easy camping breakfast ideas outlined above don’t require much prep work anyway. But what prep work there is, do it before you leave home.

For example, crack all your eggs and put them in a sealed container. This saves time once you’re at your campsite, but it’s also a much easier way to transport eggs without the worry of them getting damaged in their carton.

As another example, if you make omelets, precut all of the veggies at home, that way you can just throw everything into the frying pan at camp. Again, it doesn’t take all morning to chop vegetables, but every moment you aren’t preparing your meal is another moment to relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends.

These are just two examples, but you get the point. If you meal plan ahead of time, you’ll know precisely what you need, how much of it, and you’ll also know what elements of your easy camping breakfast ideas you can check off the list at home.

Minimize the Smell – Make Your Easy Camping Breakfast Outside

If you’re camping, why not head outside to make your easy camping breakfast?

The combination of fresh air and beautiful scenery is enough to warrant cooking outside in the first place. But add in the fact that your breakfast won’t stink up your trailer or RV, and you have an especially winning idea.

Besides, cooking breakfast over a fire is the ultimate cooking experience, especially if you’re cooking sausage, bacon, or some other type of meat. And if you have a large enough skillet, throw in your eggs or add some pancake batter for a heck of a great easy camping breakfast.

While you’re at it, you can do any lingering prep work outside, too. For example, I use my Tailgater Tire Table as counter space for all my breakfast ingredients. It’s the perfect height for organizing everything I’ve prepped ahead of time and grabbing it when I need it while cooking over the fire or on one of my camping grills.

What’s more, the Tire Table is a nice spot to sit and eat once the easy camping breakfast is done. Just pull up a chair (which will be more comfortable than the picnic table at camp) and have a great meal to kick off the day!

On top of that, the Tire Table is incredibly easy to set up – just hook it on the tire of your vehicle or trailer, deploy the leg for added stability, and you’ve got yourself an awesome table for preparing food, eating meals, working, and even playing games.

The beauty of a table like this is that you don’t have to hunt around for level ground to set it up (which is virtually impossible to do, anyway). Instead, the table relies on the tire for stability, which it provides no matter the terrain.

And since the table is small and relatively lightweight, it’s not something that takes up a ton of space in your vehicle or trailer. Since space is at a premium when you’re camping, that’s a critical feature!

I’ve used my Tire Table for quite some time now, and it’s proven to be one of the best additions to my camping gear. It’s well-made, durable, and multi-functional, which is exactly what you want in your camping gear.

Minimize Cleanup – Use Biodegradable Dishes for Your Easy Camping Breakfast

use paper plates

Growing up, we would use paper plates for meals, and when we were done, we’d throw them into the fire.

These days, I prefer to use biodegradable dishes that I can pack home with me and put in the compost pile. It’s an easy way to minimize cleanup while also being a little more earth-friendly.

Of course, you can also use actual dishes to eat your easy camping breakfast, which eliminates the need to purchase biodegradable dishes for each camping trip. If your camper or RV has a small sink (or if you don’t have a camper or RV at all), you can set up a washing station at camp to make quick work of cleanup.

Just grab two small plastic tubs, fill both with warm water and add soap to one. Use one bin for scrubbing dirty dishes and the other bin for rinsing. Have someone help you wash, rinse, and dry everything to make the task less laborious. Then, have everyone in camp help put everything away, and in a few minutes, you’ll be ready for the day’s adventures!

With that, you have a few tips for easy camping breakfasts. Now you can enjoy great food with less time spent preparing and cleaning up!
