2022 Toyota Tacoma Revealed

The Toyota Tacoma has been the leader of the mid-size truck market for a while now. It might be an old truck, but the engine and drivetrain are tried and tested; therefore, anyone who buys a Tacoma can be sure it will last for a long time.

For 2022 the truck is mostly the same. However, Toyota has made some tweaks to keep the truck as up-to-date as possible – let’s have a look.

2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition

The Tacoma trail edition is a more capable truck now. Toyota decided to turn this model into a more affordable TRD Pro by giving it a 1.1-inch suspension lift at the front and a 0.5-inch lift at the back. It also comes standard with Goodyear all-terrain tires which are reinforced with Kevlar – this ensures you will get as few punctures as possible when off-roading.

In the bed of the Tacoma, we have the cargo boxes that used to only be available with the trail special edition – now they are available on the normal trail edition. They are not the biggest but both are lockable and insulated; therefore, you can feel safe that your sandwiches will stay cool, and no one will steal them.

These boxes take up space in the bed, but you can take them out if needed.

The power train is still the 3.5 liter V6 and the choice between a six-speed manual or six-speed auto is offered. It may be getting dated by now, but the simplicity provides what people like and need the most – reliability.

However, I am pretty sure that as soon as the Toyota Tacoma is fully updated all that simplicity will be gone – shame.

For 2022 the Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO has a new color dubbed electric lime metallic. One thing’s for sure – you won’t be losing your car in a car park with this color.

All new decals are also available because off-roaders and overlanders do love their decals.

The rest of the exterior and all of the interior remain mostly the same. However, the engineers at Toyota have done some pretty serious work when it comes to suspension.

The control arms are now different from those of all other Toyota Tacoma models, this allows for more articulation and lift. Talking about lift, approach, and departure angles have been slightly improved due to a minor suspension lift. Therefore, you can expect the new TRD Pro to be more capable than ever.

As is mostly the case with Toyota the new Tacoma didn’t get any major updates which can be disappointing to some. However, the beefier suspension combined with the simplicity of the truck now provides an even better base for an extremely capable overlanding rig.

Oh, and the color will make sure that if you ever get lost in the wilderness the rescue team will most probably locate you.

Pricing is not available for either model but think about the trail edition as a more affordable Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO.

The 2022 Tacoma will be available in fall of this year.
